# Heavy Duty Handheld Tools The GBA SP with DeWALT Battery Modifies the Console for Extreme Runtime By Amy Duong | Published 2025-11-21 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gba-sp References: [reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/comments/1oiwk9g/gba_sp_with_162000mwh_replaceable_battery/) The GBA SP with DeWALT Battery will outlast the apocalypse by replacing the original handheld’s tiny internal battery with a large 18-volt DeWALT XR FLEXVOLT lithium-ion tool pack and a buck converter that steps down the voltage to the four volts the console expects. The build mounts the Game Boy Advance SP onto the power-tool battery via a custom holder that slides into the pack’s rail system, and charging still takes place through the regular DeWALT charger. The result is a console with potentially hundreds of hours of runtime compared with the few hours the original battery allowed. The styling emphasises the tool aesthetic: the SP shell is resprayed in black with yellow buttons and sports a prominent DeWALT logo on the lid so it looks like work gear rather than a gaming device. The mod balances extreme overkill with nostalgia and humour, showing how a beloved handheld can be transformed into a rugged, power-tool style gadget.
