That is, unless you're in the mood to scare yourself from staring at some extremely [macabre and disturbing images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-tales-of-the-weird) of pale-faced ladies with mutilations all over their bodies. Gavin Hargest, who illustrates under the pseudonym Gavade, is a UK-based artist who really knows how to create a [chilling atmosphere](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-scent-of-a-nightmare) in his work. Using as little color as possible, Hargest instead floods his images with detailed renderings of scars and stitches that make it really hard for viewers not to wince. Hargest [colors these images digitally](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencilify-ai) and adds textures that look like shattered glass and polygonal veins to further enhance the morbid effect of each illustration. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Macabre Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop an online marketplace for niche macabre artists to connect with buyers. - **Digital Textures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create a mobile app that allows users to easily add digital textures and effects to their own photographs. - **Minimalist Color:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design a line of minimalist, monochromatic home decor inspired by Hargest's use of little color in his illustrations. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop an AI-powered curator to recommend original artwork to collectors based on their preferences. - **Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Invent a wearable device that projects digital art onto any blank surface, transforming the way we experience art in public spaces. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate augmented reality technology into an e-commerce platform for home decor, allowing customers to visualize products in their own space before purchase. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Artful Suspended Fashion Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisible-figures.md) - [Hyper-Realistic Flesh Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito.md) - [Anime Horror-Style Reimaginations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito-artwork.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Archival Pigment Art Print](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parallax.md) - [Realistic Sketch-Reflective Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md)
