# Existential Comic Strips Garfield Minus Garfield is a Hilarious Cartoon Tribute to Make You Think By Jordan M | Published 2011-03-29 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garfield-minus-garfield References: [garfieldminusgarfield.net](http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/) If you’ve ever found yourself reading one of Jim Davis’ Garfield comics and feeling that there is definitely something odd about Jon Arbuckle (the human counterpart to Garfield himself), than you will definitely get a kick out of Garfield Minus Garfield by Dan Walsh. By simply removing the character of Garfield and all his dialogue from published Garfield comics, Dan Walsh is able to recast and refocus on the underlying angst of the Jon Arbuckle character in order to take readers on "a journey deep into the mind of an [isolated young everyman](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/betwixt) as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb." Needless to say, after reading a few [hilarious strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incorrect-quote-generator) of Jon talking to himself, you will immediately see why this offbeat description perfectly sums up what reading Garfield Minus Garfield is like. Incredibly enough, even Jim Davis himself has expressed admiration for Garfield Minus Garfield, which is a rare honor not many [tribute comics or reinterpretations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alterego-the-official-comic) can lay claim to. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 44% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Internet](https://www.trendhunter.com/internet) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Existential Comic Strips:** Creating comic strips that focus on the underlying angst and isolation of characters can provide a fresh and thought-provoking experience for readers. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Comic Publishing:** Publishing companies can explore the creation and promotion of comic strips that delve into existential themes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Simple Joke Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dad-jokes1.md) - [Mind-Bending Graphic Novels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incal.md) - [Cartoon-Celebrating Snack Branding](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/popchips-and-the-garfield-movie.md) - [Horrific Beer-Themed Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garage-beer.md) - [Personalized Comic Book Creation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreamcanvas.md) - [Reimagined Beloved Character Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marvel-and-disney.md) - [Humorous Parenting Guides](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eat-pray-cry.md) - [Interactive AI Journals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-journal1.md) - [Minimalist Pet-Inspired Decor Items](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-pets.md)
