Each morning, you'll be greeted with the familiar feeling of green grass between your toes. Before you kick back and languish in the natural splendor of your new house, you'll have to do some contracting. Though a green thumb isn't necessary to foster and raise the Garden Rug, it might help. Developed by Pia Wustenberg, a German designer stationed in England, the carpet is made from a felt-like, organic material whose properties allow [moss colonies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moss-humidifier-concept) to germinate and spread. Because the process is entirely controlled, the Garden Rug will at first remain grey and bleak, but the seeds will eventually begin to flower, leaving a beautiful design of grass spiraling along your floor. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Living Floor Coverings:** Design and create floor coverings made with organic materials that embrace the concept of blending nature with interior design. - **Biophilic Interiors:** Create indoor spaces that incorporate natural elements, such as plants, moss, and other organic materials to improve air quality and provide a connection with nature. - **Green Living:** Encourage sustainable living through the incorporation of innovative and natural materials into everyday products and designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** This industry could take advantage of the trend by incorporating organic materials into their designs, improving indoor air quality while creating aesthetically pleasing spaces. - **Home and Garden:** This industry could incorporate the Garden Rug into their product offerings, appealing to customers who want to bring natural elements into their living space. - **Sustainability:** This trend could become part of the sustainability movement and inspire businesses to create innovative green products, such as the Garden Rug, that improve the connection between humans and the environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Nature-Inspired Home Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flower-power-moss-wall-art.md) - [Flower-Inspired Vibrant Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/espressionismo-floreale.md) - [Desert-Inspired Floor Coverings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-rug.md) - [Drought-Awareness Rug Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dryland-rug.md) - [Biophilic-Inspired Rug Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/botanica.md) - [Vibrant Snake Graphic Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snakes-in-the-grass.md) - [Dynamic Flatwoven Carpet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matter-colection.md) - [Sprouting Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass.md) - [Carbon-Negative Area Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carbon-negative-area-rug.md)
