A team of scientists and researchers working out of the Nara Institute of Science and Technology have developed an innovative gaming robot that is designed to offer companionship, conversation and social stimulation to gamers who have grown too used to becoming isolated and lonely.

This gaming robot is designed to be able to play video games with you while chatting about the game, whether that means providing encouragement, expressing concern or even complaining about suffering a defeat.

Given the disturbing pattern of loneliness, stigma and social isolation being experienced by introverted gamers in certain societies, the advent of a companionship-providing gaming robot could provide a bit of solace. Going forward, the researchers suggest that the robot could be incorporated into a longer-term companionship solution that can be customized to the needs of different demographics.
