'Applause' pays tribute to several recognizable pop culture characters, like Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride,' the Mad Hatter from 'Alice in Wonderland' and Botticelli's Venus. As well, Gaga can be seen paying tribute to musical icons like Cher, David Bowie and Madonna. One of the oddest parts of the video involves Gaga's head superimposed onto the body of a black swan.
