While extensions are a great way to add extra space to an existing home, it can be difficult to blend old architecture with new construction. This home demonstrates how architects can combine the old and the new in a seamless way. The G3 House is a recently completed home located in Otopeni, Romania. Although the home feature a traditional design, the owners wanted the new space to feel distinctly modern. As a result, the architects opted for a modern reinterpretation of a [traditional pitched-roof home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eight-gables). This feat was achieved by drawing on the traditional of origami to create an angular covered terrace. The design ultimately creates dialogue between the two volumes for a seamless transition between past and present. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 76% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Origami-inspired Architecture:** The use of origami-inspired designs in architecture opens up opportunities for creating unique and visually stunning structures. - **Blending Old and New:** Architects can find innovative ways to seamlessly integrate new constructions with existing architecture, creating a harmonious blend of the old and the new. - **Reinterpreting Traditional Designs:** Drawing inspiration from traditional designs and reinterpreting them in a modern context allows for the creation of innovative and culturally rich architectural spaces. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** The architecture industry can explore origami-inspired designs to offer clients unique, visually captivating structures. - **Construction:** The construction industry can innovate by developing techniques and materials that facilitate the seamless integration of new extensions with existing structures. - **Home Renovation:** In the home renovation industry, there is an opportunity to reimagine traditional designs and blend them with contemporary elements, providing homeowners with spaces that balance history and modernity. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Retro Geometric Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/octagon-house.md) - [Trapezoidal Residential Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reciprocal-house.md) - [Curved Vintage Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drpa.md) - [Inverted-Pitched Roof Extentions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/butterfly-house-extension.md) - [Star-Shaped House Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunniva-rosenberg.md) - [Gabled Annexe Vintage Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solitgarreau-residence.md) - [Blocky Extended Transformed Bunaglows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osullivan-skoufoglou-architects.md) - [Flexible Family Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-simple-addition.md) - [Illuminated Curved Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cereus-house.md)
