# Electronic Interface Sinks High-Tech Trough Sink By lourdes sanchez bayas | Published 2008-04-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/futuristic-kitchen-plumming-the-high-tech-sink References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/index.php/2008/04/18/prep-cooks-dream/) Designer Anne Kitzmiller, in collaboration with [plumbing and appliances giant Kohler](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kohler-billet), developed this trough prep sink. The sink is a high-tech device with an electronic interface and [garbage disposal synchronization](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garbage-disposal1). It also has a [controlled rinse cycle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chicago-faucet-company) with color coded alert buttons. I have mixed feelings about this design. This trough container, which resembles a gutter, is limited in the way you can use it because of its narrow shape. I don't quite like it. **Implications** - Anne Kitzmiller's high-tech trough sink utilizes Active Touch technology that creates a safe interface which is only activated by human touch, preventing accidental activation by pots, pans, forks, or any other kitchen items. The short rinse cycle is indicated by a consistent blue glow and synchronized garbage disposal cycle. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **High-tech Trough Sink:** Opportunity for the development of smart sinks with electronic interfaces and synchronized features, offering a convenient and efficient user experience. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Plumbing and Appliances:** Plumbing and appliance manufacturers can explore the market potential of high-tech sinks to meet the demand for innovative kitchen fixtures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tech-Equipped Kitchen Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-kitchen-sink.md) - [Reinventive Modern Kitchen Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-kitchen.md) - [Sleek Four-Station Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tlx-series-express-lavatory-system.md) - [Ultra-Modern Freestanding Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/freestanding-sink.md) - [Angular Ceramic Sink Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/angle-washbasin.md) - [Electric Kiln-Made Unique Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volta-1.md) - [Water Flow-Inspired Kiln Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volta-collection.md) - [Sculptural 3D-Printed Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3d-printed-sink.md) - [Refined Dishwasher Faucets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grifoa-sliding-faucet.md)
