The drum kit is characterized by its [flatpack design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pentatonic-1) that would allow for easy storage when not in use, but expand into a full-size unit when it's time to play. The kit allows players to create [beats using the musician's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twin-dj) [own samples](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tm4) rather than relying on a built-in library of sounds to further put a focus on interactivity and customization. The drum kit is sized perfectly for smaller living spaces where a conventional set simply wouldn't fit. The conceptual 'Collector' future drum kit is the design work of Liu Tianchen and is the winner of the 2021 Red Dot Design Concept Award. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 11% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Flatpack Instruments:** Designing instruments that can be easily assembled and stored to maximize portability and convenience. - **Customizable Musical Instruments:** Providing musical instruments that can be easily customized with the musician's own samples, allowing for unique sounds and personalized experiences. - **Digital Integration for Traditional Instruments:** Integrating digital technology into traditional instruments to enhance interactivity and functionality, allowing for greater innovation and adaptability. ### Where This Applies - **Music Instrument Manufacturing:** Developing and manufacturing new types of instruments that can be easily assembled, stored and customized to cater to modern musicians and their needs. - **Digital Music Industry:** Creating digital tools and software that integrate with traditional instruments to provide musicians with more possibilities in creating soundscapes and music. - **Home and Living Industry:** Designing furniture and home accessories that can accommodate modern, space-constrained home environments while still providing flexibility for entertainment and self-expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ultra-Modern MIDI Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/midi-device.md) - [Movement-Tracking Air Drums](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-drums.md) - [Noise-Reducing Digital Drum Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roland-vdrums-quiet-design.md) - [Futuristic Abstract Musical Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeta-electric-guitar.md) - [Functional Drum Kit Controllers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crkd-drums.md) - [Retro-Futuristic DJ Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/opj-dj-console.md) - [Modularly Elegant Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bang-olufsen-orchestra.md) - [Interchangeable Component DJ Decks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-dj-controller.md) - [Portable Music Controllers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-midi-controller.md)
