# Wood Dripping Furniture Matthew Robinson's Fusion Tables Look like They are Playfully Melting By Meghan Young | Published 2012-06-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fusion-tables References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/06/07/fusion-tables-by-matthew-robinson/) & [matthewrobinsonfurniture](http://www.matthewrobinsonfurniture.co.uk/) The Fusion Tables look like they were placed in a room so hot that even the wood is melting, which is quite impossible. A [surreal design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture), they are [playful, youthful and eye-catching](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child). The name of this piece of furniture is inspired by the use of two different woods. The one that is melting appears to have been splattered by accident on the corner of the actual table, dripping down to replace the original leg support. Created by Matthew Robinson, a furniture design student at the Leeds College of Art in the United Kingdom, the [solid wood Fusion Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-furnitures) are made out of American Walnut and Maple. He writes on his website, "In terms of design, my furniture is intended to start conversations, to be a style statement within an interior." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.9/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Wood-melting Design:** Innovative furniture design that incorporates a melting wood style to elevate the aesthetic appeal of wood furniture. - **Fusion Woodworking:** Innovative Fusion woodworking approach that combines sporadic wood types to give raise to intriguing furniture designs. - **Surrealist Design:** Innovation in furniture design that explores artistic designs reminiscent of surrealist art style. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunities for innovation in furniture manufacturing that incorporate unique design styles to differentiate product offerings. - **Interior Design:** Innovation in interior design that explores and incorporates unconventional furniture designs to create unique living spaces. - **Woodworking:** Innovation in woodworking that explores different design approaches, such as the Fusion approach, to elevate the aesthetic appeal of wood products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Geologically Fluid Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-geology-table-collection.md) - [Mycelium-Crafted Organic Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duk-series.md) - [Blurred Bold Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blur-coffee-table.md) - [Artful Wooden Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knowledge-of-all-dark-things.md) - [Aquatic Lake Wood Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snhetta-intersection-table.md) - [Vibrant Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vibrant-furniture-collection.md) - [Unique Burl-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/don-heston-studio.md)
