# Fragmented Chair Designs The 'Fused Chair' is Made of Parts from Five Broken and Unwanted Chairs By Ell Smith | Published 2017-07-13 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fused-chair References: [behance.net](https://www.behance.net/gallery/53180765/Fused-Chair?tracking_source=curated_galleries_list) & [joyce-lin](http://joyce-lin.com/) The Fused Chair is a sculptural representation of the limitless possibilities surrounding sustainable furniture design. Fused was created using discarded wooden dining chairs, paper clay, plaster and paint. To make this amphibious piece of furniture, the designer took varying parts from five different chairs, fusing them together to create something uniquely harmonious. The chair is both fragmented and balanced, and serves as an example of environmentally responsible design, as it brings new life to otherwise discarded objects. This chair's design features a subtle rippling effect near the back of the chair that transitions into an eruption of various parts closer to the bottom. The all-white nature of the chair provides an eerie, ghost-like experience for the onlooker. The Fused Chair combines function and form to serve as a reminder of the potential for eco-design in the home decor world. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sustainable Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: explore the use of discarded objects and materials to create unique and environmentally responsible furniture designs. - **Fragmented Chair Designs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: experiment with combining different parts from various chairs to create harmonious and visually interesting furniture pieces. - **Eco-design in Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: integrate eco-friendly principles into the design of home decor items to promote sustainability and environmental consciousness. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: revolutionize traditional furniture design by incorporating sustainable materials and techniques. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: embrace eco-design principles to create environmentally friendly and visually appealing interior spaces. - **Home Decor Retail:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: curate a selection of eco-design products that cater to the growing demand for sustainable home decor items. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ribboned Recycled Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ruffini.md) - [Unexpected Boundary-Pushing Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair.md) - [Recycled Dynamic Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bultan-chair.md) - [Sprouting Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass.md) - [Sustainably Minded Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conscious-chair.md) - [Sustainably Made Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mixu-chair.md) - [Sophisticated Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ff-chair-collection.md) - [Chic Recycled Waste Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xox-chair.md) - [Sculptural Recycled Plastic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/super-chair.md)
