# Multi-Functional Treehouses Wooden Structure Dances Between Furniture and Architecture By Andrew Robichaud | Published 2009-07-13 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/furniture-and-architecture References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2009/07/13/xs-architecture-vs-xl-furniture-by-worapong-manupipatpong/) & [zoologist08.blogspot](http://zoologist08.blogspot.com/) This [treehouse-inspired contraption](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casetta-tessino) by Worapong Manupipatpong is an experiment of multi-functionalism. He built this structure for a graduation project and it took off from there. The goal for the installation (which has no name) is to find the separation or correlation between furniture and architecture and try to create something that hangs in limbo between the two. His project has 2 levels with many different [areas of seating or lying down](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/entwined-objects) while still maintaining the overall look of a building (for lack of a better term). I think he’s appropriately established a connection between furniture and architecture for this exhibit. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 42% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Multi-functionalism in Design:** Exploring the intersection of furniture and architecture to create versatile and adaptable structures. - **Blurring Boundaries in Design:** Challenging traditional categorizations by creating structures that defy conventional definitions. - **Experimental Architecture:** Pushing the boundaries of design by using unconventional materials and techniques. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity to create innovative furniture pieces that incorporate architectural elements and functionalities. - **Architecture:** Potential for architects to explore new approaches in designing versatile and adaptable structures. - **Interior Design:** Scope for interior designers to incorporate unique and multi-functional architectural structures into spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Conservationist Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sylvascope-treehouse.md) - [Vertical Feline Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-tree-house-2.md) - [Architecture-Inspired Furniture Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/formfunctional-archifurniture.md) - [City-Honoring Furniture Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/symbiotic-urban-furniture-project.md) - [Cartoonish Tubular Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tubular-treehouse.md) - [Artful Elevated Timber Treehouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/secret-camp.md) - [Hidden Garden Timber Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-room-around-a-tree.md) - [Ultra-Simple Multifunctional Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chairpf.md) - [Elevated Treetop Modern Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buitenverblijf-nest.md)
