AIchan and GONta are the names of two funny robots created by a lab at Japan's Konan University, which use an AI program and play off of one another to tell jokes. Specifically, these robots work together to form manzai-style stand-up comedy routines from Japanese culture, which traditionally involve a "straight man" and a "funny man" who rapidly trade jokes based on mutual misunderstandings, puns, gags and wordplay.

These robots use an [artificial intelligence program](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jizai) to search for information on a particular topic and spontaneously put together a routine that involves them bantering with one another.

While there are many [robotic toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-robots) and other instances where [robots are used for entertainment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incorrect-quote-generator), this robotic duo is out to deliver jokes that humans will find funny—a feat that is challenging for even human comedians.
