Although, 'simple' is probably the last adjective you should use to describe the savory sandwich. The [gourmet burger chain](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bbq-brisket-steakburger) tweeted a picture of their completely untraditional take on a classic American dish. The thing that makes the Freakshow is its [barbecued funnel cake bun](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/donut-burger-1). The ridiculously unhealthy funnel cake burger also contains [corn dog-fried bacon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spicy-pickle-bacon-burger), fried cheese curds and a buttered popcorn cheese sauce that is drizzled all over. As the restaurant also serves spiked milkshakes, Zombie Burger suggests pairing the sandwich with their Crackerjack shake. Similar to recent burgers featured on the site, this epic sandwich takes gourmet to vaguely gross but mostly epic proportions any cheeseburger enthusiast will immediately feel the need to try. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Food](https://www.trendhunter.com/food) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Gourmet Junk Food:** The Freakshow funnel cake burger demonstrates the trend of elevating traditional junk food into gourmet creations, presenting an opportunity for innovative twists on classic foods. - **Extreme Mashups:** The combination of funnel cake, corn dog-fried bacon, fried cheese curds, and buttered popcorn cheese sauce in the Freakshow burger showcases the trend of creating outrageous and unexpected hybrid foods, prompting exploration of unique flavor and texture combinations. - **Indulgent Experiences:** Zombie Burger's fried funnel cake sandwich exemplifies the trend of indulging in over-the-top, calorie-laden food experiences, opening up possibilities for creating memorable and crave-worthy dining adventures. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Gourmet Fast Food:** The Freakshow funnel cake burger highlights the potential for fast food chains and gourmet restaurants to merge flavors and culinary techniques, creating a new market for inventive high-quality fast food dishes. - **Carnival Food:** The use of funnel cake and corn dog-fried bacon in the sandwich points to opportunities for innovation in the carnival food industry, encouraging vendors to reimagine and revamp traditional fair favorites. - **Dessert Burgers:** The buttered popcorn cheese sauce and funnel cake bun in the Freakshow burger present a disruptive innovation opportunity for dessert-focused burger joints, sparking ideas for decadent and unconventional dessert burger combinations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Saucy Funnel Cake Desserts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/funnel-cake-with-caramel-sauce.md) - [Sweet Funnel Cake Fries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-funnel-cake-fries.md) - [Beignet Bun Burgers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beignet-cheeseburger-sliders.md) - [Burger-Style Frozen Novelties](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frosty-burger.md) - [Super Spicy Squid Sandwiches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squid-devil-burger.md) - [Strawberry Chicken Burgers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/strawberry-cream-burger.md) - [Indulgent Halloween Burger Menus](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mega-monster-burger.md) - [Cheese Puff-Topped Burgers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hot-cheetos-burger.md) - [Air Fryer Dessert Fries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carnival-fun-cake-fries.md)
