# Fungus-Covered Light Fixtures This Fungus Lamps Take Natural Design Farther Than it's Been Before By Michael Baxter | Published 2014-03-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fungus-lamp References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2014/02/mushroom-producing-lamp.html) & [jonasedvard.dk](http://jonasedvard.dk/work/myx/) A piece of furniture made out of mold is a perplexing piece of furniture, so this fungus lamp will have users confused about how to feel. The lamp is one of the most original designs for a lamp fixture, because it truly is all natural. The lamp was made by Jonas Edvard and breaks the mold (pun intended) on what should be in the home. Typically mold is to be eradicated on sight, but in these fungus lamps you have a functional piece of furniture with a unique design. The lamps use used [plant fiber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luffa-collection) and [mushroom mycelium](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duk-series) and even have a little trick up their sleeves. The plants actually grow mushrooms on them that are completely edible. While it may seem suspect to eat what your lamp is growing, it does seem like an intriguing possibility. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Fungus-based Furniture:** Designing furniture made of fungi offers new opportunities to incorporate organic materials in home decor. - **Edible Home Decor:** Incorporating edible ingredients into home decor pieces presents a potential for disruption in both the home goods and food industries. - **Natural Lighting Fixtures:** Creating lighting fixtures using organic materials like fungus and plant fibers can add a unique touch to home and office interiors. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Furnishings:** Fungus-based furniture and edible decorative pieces could disrupt the traditional market for home furnishings. - **Food:** The incorporation of edible ingredients in home decor presents new opportunities for innovation in the food industry. - **Lighting:** Designing lighting fixtures with organic materials may offer a path for growth and differentiation in the lighting industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mycelium Velvety Lampshades](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/b-wise.md) - [Stunning Mushroom-Shaped Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mushroomshaped-table-lamp.md) - [Mushroom-Inspired Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humble-lights.md) - [Organic Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lapso.md) - [Mushroom-Constructed Room Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mush-room.md) - [Furry Mycelium Sustainable Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aifunghi.md) - [Plant-Based Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plantbased-lamp.md) - [Mycelium-Based Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ephemeral-table.md) - [Imaginative Mushroom Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/white-rabbit-england.md)
