# Space-Saving Desks The Volga Desk Offers a Functional Countertop Designed to Fit the Essentials By M | Published 2016-06-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/functional-countertop References: [betterlivingthroughdesign](http://www.betterlivingthroughdesign.com/furnishings/volga-desk/) & [yliving](http://www.yliving.com/temahome-volga-desk.html) The [Volga](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hotel-volga) Desk is ideal for homes or office spaces with layouts looking to fit a functional countertop in a smaller space. The desk is designed to work with a significantly smaller surface space without compromising on efficiency and the necessities. While many desks can be bulky and wide in size, the Volga design acknowledges that most people only require or use a small portion of the surface. The desk is shaped similar to a shelf with a skinner width that is wide enough to house papers, folders and a desktop or laptop comfortably. To keep the small space organized, folder shelves are included on the right side. The contemporary colored desk also conveniently stands on two legs rather than four to continue saving space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 97% | Activity: 76% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Space-saving Furniture:** Opportunity for designing functional furniture that optimizes small spaces. - **Compact Workstations:** Demand for desks or workstations that can comfortably accommodate essential tools and equipment in limited spaces. - **Efficiency-focused Designs:** Growing interest in designs that prioritize organization and maximize space utilization. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Innovations in manufacturing techniques and materials to create space-saving and multifunctional furniture pieces. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to provide design solutions and guidance in optimizing small spaces for efficient and comfortable work environments. - **Office Supplies:** Developing and marketing compact and versatile office supplies specifically designed for limited workspace areas. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Storage-Paired Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diag-desk.md) - [Elegant Working Desk Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mindset-builtin-computer-desk.md) - [Minimalist Demure Designer Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backup-desk.md) - [Moveable Small Space Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humanscale-float-micro.md) - [Fold-Away Sleek Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-desk.md) - [Sleek Storage-Packed Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threesix-desk.md) - [Practical Rotating Wall Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/revolver-wallmounted-desk.md) - [Minimalist Storage-Friendly Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-bold-desk.md) - [Ergonomic Multi-Use Desk Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kabinett-desk.md)
