# Shower Cubby Holes Function Tiles by Droog Design By Design Crack | Published 2009-11-12 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/function-tiles-by-droog-design-a-decade-old-and-still-cool References: [designcrack](http://designcrack.com/v2/2007/02/23/function-tiles-by-droog-design/) & [droogdesign.nl](http://www.droogdesign.nl) Function Tiles is an oldie but a goodie. It’s a [tile system](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uu-tiles) from 1997 by Droog Designers Peter van der Jagt, Erik-Jan Kwakkel, and Arnout Visser that makes the tiles work more functionally, thus the name “Function Tiles”. The concept is brilliant. That is, getting more out of your [shower or bathroom with limited space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prefabricated-pods). Or, does the system function for minimalists that need tons of gadgets but want to hide them? However you spin it, the idea is really, really cool. I mean, how cool would it be to have a [tv built into your shower](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/showerclear)? Pretty damn cool. BTW, it’s not available, so if someone could please manufacture this soon, that would be goo. OK, sure, the project was designed a decade ago, and I’ve really been trying to keep my design searching very fresh, but I’m starting to take my guards down and looking for older, fantastic designs. I don’t know if I would ever go as far as having anything as popular as a LeCorbusier chair on the site, but preserving the memory of a project like this seems like a good goal. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Shower Cubby Holes:** Innovation opportunity for bathroom equipment manufacturers to incorporate Droog Design's Function Tiles concept into their products. - **Multi-functional Spaces:** Opportunity for interior designers to create multi-functional spaces, using concepts like Function Tiles, to maximize functionality in small areas. - **Minimalist Gadgets:** Opportunity for designers to create minimalist bathroom gadgets that can be discreetly stored in Function Tiles or similar concepts. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Bathroom Equipment Manufacturing:** Function Tiles by Droog Design offers an opportunity for manufacturers to create more functional and innovative shower and bathroom products. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate Function Tiles or similar concepts to maximize functionality in small spaces like bathrooms. - **Gadget Design:** Designers can create minimalist gadgets that can be discreetly stored in Function Tiles or similar concepts, catering to customers who prefer a tidy bathroom space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Optical Illusion Shower Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/betteair.md) - [Utility-Focused Bathroom Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/showdown-system.md) - [Modern Modular Shower Organizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-spot.md) - [Waffle-Like Patterned Ceramic Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cubik.md) - [Demure Hand Shower Faucets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bell-jar-shower-head.md) - [Sculpted Pattern Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osso-bottone.md) - [Minimal Integrated Tile LIghting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uu-tiles.md) - [Accessible Shower Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/accessible-showers.md) - [Tiled Gridded Kitchen Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dancing-grid.md)
