# Unibrowed Icon Playthings Frida Kalho Dolls are Cute and Creative By Sophia Pelka | Published 2012-01-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frida-kalho-dolls References: [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/shop/josephineartifacts?ref=pr_shop_more) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/people/josephineartifacts) These Frida Kalho dolls are endearingly intellectual. The dolls are inspired by the iconic female painter, Frida Kalho. Mirroring several of her paintings, the dolls are adorned in traditional Mexican garnets and features themes from the paintings. The titles of the dolls match the painting they mimic. For example, one doll is titled 'Self Portrait With Monkeys.' Sporting the famous unibrow and forlorn expression, these toys are artistically rendered to very closely match Frida Kalho's appearance and embody the themes found in her works. Josephine ARTiFacts Collection by Margarita Josefina honors the iconic painter with the dolls. The artist became a doll maker after the birth of her first son. Josefina's work toes the border between art and toys. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 39% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Artistic Dolls:** There is an opportunity to create more artistic dolls that resemble iconic figures to educate and inspire children. - **Cultural Representation in Toys:** Toymakers can create more dolls that honor cultural icons and give children from diverse backgrounds more representation in their playtime. - **Blurring the Line Between Art and Toys:** There is an opportunity to create more toys that are not only entertaining but also artistic to appeal to both children and adult collectors. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Toy Manufacturing:** More artistic dolls and toys that inspire children can be created to drive sales and appeal to a wider audience. - **Education:** Artistic dolls can be a great way to teach children about different cultures and historical figures. - **Art Collecting:** Creating artistic toys that appeal to collectors can open up new revenue streams and introduce new customers to the world of art collecting. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mexican-Painter-Inspired Fragrances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frida-kahlo-eau.md) - [Pop Art Legend-Honoring Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keiichi-tanaami-1.md) - [Collectible Historical Figurines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thrilljoy-pix.md) - [Festive Día de Muertos-Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/da-de-muertos-dolls.md) - [Collectable Sculptural Doll Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inedible-doll.md) - [Art-Focused Retail Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mattel-2.md) - [Mesmerizing Fashion Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unique-eyes.md) - [Collectible Mexican Holiday Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbie-2023-da-de-muertos-doll.md) - [Whimsical Doll Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wicked-for-good.md)
