It is the brainchild of Billions in Change, an organization setup with the aim of coming up with innovative inventions to tackle problems in the areas of water availability, healthcare services and energy. The bike is comprised of regular bicycle parts, weights, an alternator and a battery. The simplicity of the components means that the contraption can be easily repaired by a bicycle mechanic anywhere in the world. The gear is connected to a flywheel which turns a generator, which charges the battery. The Free Electric is capable of generating enough electricity to run a home for 24 hours with basic appliances. The simplicity of this invention is its stand-out feature, and it may well go on to change the lives of many deprived people in the developing world. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Electricity-generating Bikes:** Harnessing the power of pedaling to generate electricity - **Sustainable Energy Solutions:** Innovative inventions for generating clean energy - **Technology for Development:** Creating simple and accessible solutions for developing countries ### Who This Affects Most - **Bicycle Manufacturing:** Opportunities for integrating electricity-generating features into bicycles - **Renewable Energy:** Applications of pedal-powered generators for sustainable energy production - **Social Innovation:** Utilizing technology to address social challenges and improve quality of life ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Self-Charging E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vello-bike-design.md) - [Sleek Electricity-Storing Velomobiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electricity-storing-velomobile.md) - [Power-Generating Desk Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lifespan-ampera.md) - [No-Plug E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/third-generation-pi-pop.md) - [Regenerative Cycling Equipment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/energy-keeper.md) - [Solar-Powered eBike Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beambike.md) - [Productivity-Supporting Exercise Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acer-ekinekt-bd-3.md) - [Adventurous Pedal-Powered Electric Bicycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pedalpowered-electric-bicycle.md) - [Convertible Electric Bike Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gravity-electric-bicycle.md)
