Beckey is one of the most prolific climbers of all time, with an absurd amount of records including [first ascents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-ascent), bushwhacking trails, and pioneered routes. However, he stubbornly refused the spotlight, never accepting any sponsorships in his single-minded pursuit of the next climb. He subsequently lived most of his life as a drifter with no permanent home and few possessions of his own. The film uses footage from over a decade that the director spent with the man himself as well as archival footage to paint a picture of a truly unique life. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Travel](https://www.trendhunter.com/travel) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Outdoor Adventure Documentaries:** There is room for more documentaries that explore the life of adventurers like Fred Beckey that would appeal to fans of outdoor exploration. - **Legacy Documentaries:** Documentaries that explore the life of a notable, little-known personality would inspire more people to live exceptional lives. - **Authentic Adventure Experiences:** There is potential for authentic outdoor adventure experiences that allow participants to live a Fred Beckey-style existence, albeit temporarily. ### Who This Affects Most - **Film:** Documentary filmmakers could make a name for themselves if they focus their lens on the lives of legendary personalities in the outdoor exploration community. - **Adventure Sports:** Climbing and outdoor sports companies that promote self-sufficient adventuring and personal achievement can leverage Beckey's story to communicate their brand values. - **Travel and Tourism:** Travel companies can promote authentic travel experiences that allow customers to participate in the adventures of legendary adventurers like Fred Beckey. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Environmental Film Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patagonia-films.md) - [Beer-Branded Adventure Films](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-letter-to-aptos.md) - [Intense Elemental-Inspired Sportswear Spots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/engineered-for-whatever-ad.md) - [Outdoor Enthusiasts Marketplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-enthusiasts-marketplace.md) - [Tech Brand-Backed Films](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beyond-the-fantasy.md) - [Rollable Climber Chalk Bags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chalk-bag.md) - [All-Black Climbing Teams](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/full-circle-everest.md) - [Beer-Focused Short Documentaries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bruz-beers1.md) - [Hiking-Specific Travel Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/100-hikes-of-a-lifetime.md)
