# Canned Gas Masks Francesco Biagini's Shield+ Provides 15 Minutes of Fresh Air By Michael Hines | Published 2011-02-24 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/francesco-biagini References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/SHIELD-/783001) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/franzbia/frame) Designer Francesco Biagini is trying to make it easier to survive a fire with his new design, Shield+. Shield+ is a canned gas mask that provides up to 15 minutes of fresh air once deployed. Shield+ isn't much to look at, but I do love the idea of a [simple gas mask](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ebcare-mask) that can be placed inside buildings. Personally, I would like to see Francesco Biagini's design placed side-by-side with the [fire extinguisher](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fire-detection-and-suppression). I take fire safety very seriously. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Canned Gas Masks:** A trend of designing portable gas masks that offer a limited supply of fresh air during emergencies. - **Building Safety Equipment:** A trend in developing innovative safety equipment specifically designed for indoor environments like buildings. - **Minimalistic Design:** A trend of creating simple and unobtrusive designs for safety equipment to improve accessibility and ease of use. ### Where This Applies - **Emergency Preparedness:** There is an opportunity for businesses to develop and provide emergency preparedness solutions, including portable gas masks. - **Construction and Building Safety:** The construction and building safety industry can explore incorporating innovative safety equipment, such as canned gas masks, into their protocols. - **Fire Safety:** Companies that specialize in fire safety can consider the disruptive potential of introducing simple gas masks alongside fire extinguishers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Shield-Style Fire Extinguishers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hussechuck-and-shield.md) - [Aerodynamic Filtration Face Masks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/goa-face-protector.md) - [Protective Earthquake Response Shields](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/testudo-shield-and-helmet.md) - [Air-Blowing Face Masks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-mask.md) - [Easy-to-Use Fire Extinguishers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/agni-fire-extinguisher-redesign.md) - [Air-Controlling VR Masks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airres-mask.md) - [Wearable Oxygen Support Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/super-o2-patch.md) - [Customizable Style Face Masks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rpur-fiit.md) - [Submarine-Inspired Diving Masks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/periscope-mask.md)
