The Artforum Excavation Series includes a collection of sculptures that have been intricately and precisely cut page by page with an X-acto blade in different [wavy and swirly patterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crystal-sandsara). The result of Ms. Pastine's work gives the appearance as if rainbow of colors were dripping off the page. Francesca Pastine also found that the carving would sometimes lead to a mesh of different art works from different pages, which came together to create a new hybrid artwork. As the artist explains, "My manipulations map out a tangle of associations, unique contradictions and paradoxes through curious juxtapositions." The [mesh of bright colors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorscape-installation), patterns and divers pieces of art come together to offer a delightful visual sight. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Psychedelic Paper Sculptures:** Artists are creating captivating sculptures using cut paper from magazines, resulting in mesmerizing psychedelic patterns. - **Intricate Cut Artwork:** Artists are using precise cutting techniques to create intricate and visually stunning artwork from paper. - **Hybrid Artwork:** Artists are combining different pieces of art from various pages to create new and unique hybrid artworks. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art:** The art industry can explore opportunities to incorporate paper-cut sculptures into contemporary art galleries and exhibitions. - **Print Media:** The print media industry can innovate by collaborating with artists to create interactive and visually appealing magazine spreads and covers. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can capitalize on the trend by producing paper-cut sculptures that can be used as decorative objects in homes and offices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Sculptural Mixed-Media Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes.md) - [Intersecting Dimensional Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diorama.md) - [Origami-Inspired Porcelain Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saori-matsushita.md) - [Mesmerizing Sculpture Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mesmerizing-sculpture.md) - [Structured Art Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowchart.md) - [Paper-Formed Premium Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pastille.md)
