# Floating Hollow Shelving The Frame Bookshelf by Luka Pirnat is Decorative and Practical By Meghan Young | Published 2013-02-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frame-bookshelf References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/Frame-bookshelf/6786103) & [lukapirnat](http://lukapirnat.com/) The Frame Bookshelf provides a creative way to [display books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-x-moebe-book-stand) of all sorts. It is like a [simple floating shelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf) that has been made hollow. Because of this tweak, the Frame Bookshelf is smaller and more squarish than standard long, rectangular models. This allows books to rest within the hollowed out portion without falling straight through. Created by Luka Pirnat, a designer based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the Frame Bookshelf acts as much as a [piece of decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledge-shelf) as it does a functional furnishing. The designer intends for it to function this way, stating, "It can function as a single piece but is much more effective when several are grouped together, serving decorative as well as practical purpose." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Hollow Shelving:** Exploring the concept of hollow shelves opens up opportunities for creative and space-saving storage solutions. - **Squarish Design:** The trend towards squarish shelving designs offers a unique aesthetic and a versatile way of displaying items. - **Functional Decor:** The combination of functionality and aesthetics in furniture design provides opportunities for the creation of multipurpose and visually appealing furnishings. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can incorporate the concept of hollow shelving to create innovative storage solutions for homes and offices. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can leverage the trend of squarish designs to offer stylish and space-efficient shelving options. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can explore the concept of functional decor to create unique and visually appealing living spaces that maximize both aesthetics and functionality. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md)
