# Convertible Carbon Fiber Chairs Multifunctional 'Fotel' Armchair Rocker by Peter Vardai By Elsa Blaine | Published 2009-08-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fotel-armchair-rocker References: [thedesignblog.org](http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/fotel-armchair-that-becomes-a-rocking-chair/) The Fotel chair by Hungarian designer Peter Vardai converts from a [modern armchair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/africa-collection) to [cool rocker](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-rocking-chair). An ultra-sleek [carbon fibre frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-limbo-chair) makes the design lightweight, strong and supper hip. It also allows for the piece to be used indoors or outside on the patio. The deep red banded seat looks extra comfortable for lounging or rocking. I had to really look at the Fotel to figure it out, but I am pretty sure that to transform the chair the seat itself is lifted out and the frame is flipped. What a fabulous design, both functionally and aesthetically. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 68% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Carbon Fiber Furniture:** Using carbon fiber to create lightweight and durable furniture pieces that can be used indoors or outdoors. - **Convertible Furniture:** Creating furniture pieces that can be transformed from one type to another, such as from an armchair to a rocker. - **Multifunctional Furniture:** Designing furniture with multiple purposes, such as an armchair that can also rock or act as a lounger. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can take advantage of carbon fiber's unique properties and create innovative and transformative furniture pieces. - **Outdoor Furniture:** With the ability to be used both indoors and outdoors, carbon fiber furniture could disrupt the outdoor furniture industry. - **Luxury Furniture:** Multifunctional furniture pieces, such as the Fotel chair, could disrupt the luxurious furniture market by providing high-end designs that are also functional. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Otherworldly Themed Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-rocking.md) - [Wooden Lounge Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nice-chair.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [Adventurous Versatile Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster-seat.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-rocking-chair.md) - [Padded Upright Vibrant Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fender-chair.md) - [Ultra-Simple Multifunctional Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chairpf.md) - [Fishing-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/akos-huber.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md)
