# Surreal Cycle Sculptures The Forever Bicycle Installation Symbolizes Social Environment Change By Meghan Young | Published 2011-11-02 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forever-bicycle1 References: [thecoolhunter.net](http://www.thecoolhunter.net/article/detail/2018) & [freeaiweiwei.org](http://freeaiweiwei.org/) The Forever Bicycle art installation is another stunning work of art from Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, who is currently being held in detention in his native country. Ironically, the Forever Bicycle sculpture is part of a larger work titled 'Ai WeiWei Absent.' Made out of 1,000 bikes, the Forever Bicycle art installation impressively reaches 10meters high. Even more impressive is the fact that this [immense sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape) is [constantly moving and changing shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture), just like the social environment in China, which the Forever Bicycle installation symbolizes. Artwork like the Forever Bicycle art installation is exactly what has landed Ai Weiwei in his precarious situation. Yet, without such provoking art that keeps people in power on their toes, terrible situations can only get worse. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Social Environment Change:** Disruptive innovation opportunities lie in creating interactive installations that symbolize the changing social environment. - **Provocative Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunities arise in producing thought-provoking artwork that challenges those in power. - **Dynamic Sculptures:** Disruptive innovation opportunities can be found in creating sculpture installations that constantly move and change shape. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Culture:** The art and culture industry can benefit from embracing interactive installations and provocative artwork. - **Social Commentary:** Incorporating social commentary through art can disrupt the traditional art industry and create new opportunities. - **Outdoor Sculpture:** The outdoor sculpture industry can explore dynamic sculptures that constantly transform, offering new experiences to viewers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Refugee-Informed Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-life-jackets-installation.md) - [Future-Facing Sculptural Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eye-of-the-future.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Circular Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shen-sculpture.md) - [Reflective Public Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowers-and-butterflies-are-dancing.md) - [Clock-Shaped Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-installation.md) - [Abandoned Bikes-Turned Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-from-frames.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [UK-Based Modern Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/relics-in-the-landscape.md)
