# Irregularly Stacked Forest Retreats Atelier Boom-Town Produces a Charcoal House for Forest Getaway By Kalin Ned | Published 2018-04-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-getaway References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2018/04/07/de-la-canardiere-residence-black-chalet-quebec-atelier-boom-town/) & [boom-town](http://www.boom-town.ca/rsidence-de-la-canardire) This secluded forest getaway is situated in the Laurentian Mountains, Québec. Montreal-based architecture firm [Atelier Boom-Town's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-national-des-forts) blueprints for this hidden and cozy structure are heavily influenced by the sloped site. The house is designed with modernity in mind, as the [sleek blackened wood facade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smoke-lake-cabin) gives the dwelling an elegant look. The stacked volumes of the two levels add an interesting abstract flair, making the forest getaway's design recognizable from afar. Atelier Boom-Town optimizes the open space and window panes in the structure of the forest getaway to make the most of the scenic surroundings. The two-storey building boasts a birds-eye-view of the nearby mountain lake and this serves as "the backbone for the development of this architectural concept."
