Named 'Mitigatium', this football helmet is designed to mitigate the secondary effects of hits to the head. While current helmets are pretty good at preventing peak for of impacts that can cause skull fractures, they're not as effective when it comes to preventing the secondary effects that are caused when the brain dissipates the energy of the initial hit. The Mitigatium football helmet offers a 20 per cent reduction in impulse and a 30 per cent reduction in peak pressure. The race to develop an excellent safe and lightweight football helmet is an important one given football's popularity and the inherent dangers of the sport.
