# Pedal Door Handles The Foot Latch Facilitates the Hands-Free Use of Bathroom Stalls By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-03-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foot-latch References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/03/07/sanitary-hand-saver/) & [behzadrashidi](http://www.behzadrashidi.com/227040/2576107/projects/foot-latch) Many people go out of their ways to [touch as little as possible](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chicago-faucet-company) while in public restrooms; an invention like the Foot Latch would certainly reduce hand contact with unsanitary surfaces. Just as you might prefer to activate the [toilet flusher](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-toilets) with the sole of your shoe, so would you use this same technique to [open and close your cubicle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aqara-smart-lock-u300). Behzad Rashidizadeh's design requires installation along the bottom of the door, where it meets the adjacent partition. A small but sufficiently broad pedal would be accessible from the inside, enabling you to easily depress it once you've completed your business. The metal Foot Latch has rounded corners and would not become an inconvenient catch for coats and bags. It moves easily with the help of spring hinges and keeps washrooms a touch more hygienic. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 35% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Hands-free Door Solutions:** Creating hands-free door solutions for not just bathroom stalls, but also for public and commercial doors to reduce the spread of germs. - **Sanitization Technology:** Developing new sanitization technologies that can be implemented within public restrooms to minimize the spread of germs on door handles. - **Smart Restrooms:** Creating smart restrooms that implement various contactless technologies in addition to foot latches, such as automatic faucets, soap dispensers, and dryers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architectural & Interior Design:** Opportunities for interior designers and architects as they explore hands-free solutions and innovative designs for public restrooms and commercial spaces. - **Sanitation & Cleaning:** Opportunities for cleaning and sanitation companies to develop innovative techniques to clean high-traffic public restrooms. - **Technology & Iot:** Opportunities for technology companies to design and implement smart restroom systems that utilize contactless technologies and automation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hygienic Auto-Flushing Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/close-the-lid-toilet.md) - [Hygienic Handsfree Toilet Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toilet-lid-closer.md) - [Interior Push-Pull Door Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anylock-milda.md) - [Hands-Free Home Doors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/milda-evolve-door.md) - [Entryway Deodorizing Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/comodo.md) - [Accessibility-Focused Foot Mouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foot-mouse.md) - [Intuitive Entryway Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-front-stool.md) - [Bathroom Privacy Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bathroom-privacy.md) - [Security-Enhancing Sensor Latches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/universal-latch-sensor.md)
