The Folk Monidlo photo series is based around realistic paintings of bridegrooms in the Polish culture back in the 19th century. Although these paintings were inspired by actual [photographic portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/profiles-in-color) of these bridegrooms, this photo series is the opposite in the sense that they are photographs inspired by paintings.

Shot by Slupsk-based photographer Michal Giedrojc, the Folk Monidlo photo series has a dark and rather depressing air about it. Of course, considering that smiling was not the thing back in the day, I shouldn't be surprised at the somber mood each image portrays.

Yet the Folk Monidlo photo series also has a surreal quality that is grounded in the fact that it is the same man in each of these [Polish costumes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kimpton-bem) (including the [lady garments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heli-kalkstein)).
