# Fragmented Cube Lights The 'Folding Light' by Michael Jantzen Emits Illumination in Various Ways By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2016-03-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-light References: [homecrux](http://www.homecrux.com/2016/03/09/43160/folding-light-by-michael-jantzen-alters-new-forms-and-functions.html) & [michaeljantzen](http://www.michaeljantzen.com/Welcome.html) Created with an architectural inspiration, the 'Folding Light' by Michael Jantzen features fragmented sections that can be opened and closed in a variety of formats. This allows the [illumination that escapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miror-collection) from the [cubic form](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nanoleaf-blocks) to be totally customized to the mood of the user. The light fixture within the cube emits a yellow tinted illumination that's soft and warm, which helps to offset the rather cubic nature of the exterior design. Being that the 'Folding Light' by Michael Jantzen can morph to suit different lighting needs and is an art piece in and of itself, it fits well with modern design needs. As homes become smaller, consumers will likely seek out products that marry design and function rather than accepting them as being exclusive from one another. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Customizable Lighting:** The fragmented design of the 'Folding Light' provides an opportunity for customizable lighting options that can be tailored to individual preferences. - **Artistic Lighting Fixtures:** The artistic and sculptural design of the 'Folding Light' presents an opportunity for the creation of unique lighting fixtures that can serve as both functional and aesthetic pieces of decor. - **Flexible Lighting:** The flexibility of the 'Folding Light' in terms of its various formats creates an opportunity for the development of lighting solutions that can adapt to different lighting needs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Lighting:** The 'Folding Light' has potential for use in the home lighting industry, especially as consumers seek out design-forward and functional products. - **Artistic Design:** The 'Folding Light' has potential in the artistic design industry, particularly for the creation of sculptural lighting pieces that blend form and function. - **Architectural Design:** The architectural design industry can benefit from the 'Folding Light' by exploring opportunities for integrated and customized lighting solutions within structures and spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-transformation-lamp.md) - [Colorful Cubic Smart Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neon-crystal.md) - [Infinitely Expandable Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cube-one-table-lamp.md) - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Connected Cubic Desk Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yeelight-cube.md) - [Colourful Ambient Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ambient-lamp-design.md) - [Structural Modular Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cube-one-table.md) - [Illusory Multidimensional Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-light.md) - [Unconventional Modular Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luna-kaleido-series.md)
