# Transfigured Folded Photos Eli Craven Transforms Existing Photos Through Clever Folding Patterns By Paul Maccarone | Published 2013-08-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-photos References: [ignant.de](http://www.ignant.de/2013/07/30/folding/) & [elicraven](http://www.elicraven.com//) Eli Craven uses a remarkably ingenious technique to elevate existing forms of art through his folded photos. By folding the images he is able to create entirely different artwork that transcends the original pieces through the [small manipulations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection). One of my favorite folded photos is the one with the woman holding the blanket up to her face. The small fold in the image adds an entirely different element to the photograph, and what's so amazing is that these small changes can completely redefine the entire theme; there's now an air of playfulness and mysticism. Along with the theme-changing photographs there are also a plethora of [surreal creations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1) that bend reality to a point where it's recognizable enough to stimulate conscious wonder. Craven's techniques are definitely an inspirational idea that will promote even more brilliant creations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 8% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Folded Photos:** Folded photos offer a novel way to transform existing art and create entirely different artwork through small manipulations. - **Theme-changing Art:** The use of folding techniques in photography allows for small changes that completely redefine the theme and add elements of playfulness and mysticism. - **Surreal Creations:** Folding photos can bend reality to create surreal and recognizable artwork that stimulates conscious wonder. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Photography:** The photography industry can explore the use of folding techniques to create unique and transformative artwork. - **Art Galleries:** Art galleries can showcase folded photos as a new form of art that captivates viewers with its theme-changing and surreal qualities. - **Creative Design:** The creative design industry can incorporate folding techniques into various applications, such as graphic design and advertising, to create disruptive and captivating visuals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Mixed-Media Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-echoes.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Folded Paper Figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clara-von-zweibergk.md) - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Origami-Inspired Ceramics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-series.md) - [Folded Paper-Inspired Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fold-stool.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md)
