# Remote-Controlled Pterodactyls The Flying Pterodactyl Realistically Flaps Its Wings and Screeches By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2015-04-06 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-pterodactyl References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/flying-pterodactyl/36857/) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulgtoys/pterodactyl-5-rc-flying-lizard) The Flying Pterodactyl is a radio-controlled pterodactyl, developed by Ohio-based PaulG Toys, that actually flies by flapping its wings and emits a terrifyingly realistic pterodactyl screech. Its eyes light up red when it's powered up, making it even more menacing. The Flying Pterodactyl's battery works for 15 to 20 minutes of flight time, and can be swapped for a fully-charged optional extra battery on the spot. The bird has an operational range of 500 meters. If and when it crashes upon the death of its battery, its wing and leg joints pop off so they don't get irreversibly damaged. Of course, if you're lucky enough to own a remote-controlled pterodactyl, you also want to capture people's terrified reactions. You can do this by getting a [GoPro](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dji-x-gopro-fpv-cncpt) camera harness with your robotic flying reptile. Currently the subject of a [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onorato-ai) campaign, the Flying Pterodactyl is targeted towards [amateur drone enthusiasts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoverair-x1-pro) with a twisted sense of humor. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 78% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/robots) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Radio-controlled Toys:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop and market more realistic and interactive radio-controlled toys that capture people's attention and interest. - **Drone Accessories:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design and produce innovative accessories for drones, such as camera harnesses, to enhance user experience and enable unique capabilities. - **Battery Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create more efficient and longer-lasting batteries for remote-controlled devices, addressing the limitations of current battery life and allowing for extended usage. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Toy Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the development and production of sophisticated remote-controlled toys that offer realistic features and enhanced interactivity. - **Automotive Accessories:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Diversify into the production of unique accessories for drones and other remote-controlled devices, tapping into the growing market of drone enthusiasts. - **Renewable Energy:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Invest in research and development for renewable energy solutions that can power remote-controlled devices, reducing reliance on conventional batteries and enhancing sustainability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interactive Hatching Dinosaur Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dinosaur-toys.md) - [Biomimicry Bird-Like Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bionic-bird-xfly.md) - [Falcon-Inspired Aerial Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robot-falcon.md) - [Superhero-Themed Dinosaur Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/web-chompin-spider-rex.md) - [Remote-Controlled Monster Truck Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hot-wheels-monster-trucks-hw-transforming-rhinomite-rc.md) - [Digital Dinosaur Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bitzee-jurassic-world.md) - [Auto-Transforming Toy Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grimlock.md) - [4G Drone Remote Controllers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drone-remote-controller.md) - [Dinosaur Intricate Puzzle Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dinosaur-fossils-tyrannosaurus-rex.md)
