# Functionally Flying Concept Cars Hyundai Unveiled a Flying Concept Car to Hover Over Traffic By Andrew Sztein | Published 2013-04-23 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-concept-car References: [mashable](http://mashable.com/2013/04/23/flying-concept-car-hyundai) & [foxnews](http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/04/12/hyundai-built-flying-car/) Auto-manufacturer [Hyundai](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metamobility) had a heck of a surprise at their annual Idea Festival: a functional flying concept car prototype. We can probably use the term 'car' here rather loosely as the flying concept has more in common with a [military drone quadrocopter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/byd-and-dji) than any cars that you'd see on the road today. The flying concept car was demonstrated with a crash test dummy in the driver's seat while a red-cape clad Hyundai employee took the controls with a remote control. The chances of regular consumers getting a chance to take a figurative spin in the flying concept car are rather low at the moment, but considering how long we've been promised by Sci-Fi movies and books that the flying car is coming, we're officially one step closer to the dream. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 15% | Activity: 63% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Functional Flying Concept Cars:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the development of flying cars for personal transportation, revolutionizing the automotive industry. - **Military Drone Quadrocopters:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Investigate the use of drone technology for various applications, such as surveillance, delivery, and emergency response. - **Sci-fi-inspired Transportation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Embrace futuristic concepts and technologies that bridge the gap between imagination and reality, creating new possibilities for mobility. ### Who This Affects Most - **Automotive:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Reimagine the future of transportation by integrating flying car concepts into the automotive industry, transforming the way people travel. - **Aerospace:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the advancements in aerial mobility and unmanned vehicles, applying drone technology to revolutionize the aerospace industry. - **Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Push the boundaries of technological innovation by developing new systems and infrastructure to support the emergence of flying concept cars. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Futuristic Meta Automotive Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metamobility.md) - [Flight-Equipped Hatchbacks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aeroht.md) - [Working Flying Car Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-car-prototype.md) - [Functional Flying Cars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a5-evtol.md) - [Road-Legal Flying Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchblade-1.md) - [Wind-Powered Flying Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/super-flying-car.md) - [Gaming-Inspired Vehicle Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-subcompact-suv.md) - [Angular Otherworldly Off-Road SUVs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hyundai-crater-concept.md) - [Drone-Incorporated Electric Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polestars-o2-roadster.md)
