# Legless Rockers The Elegant Flying Chair by Phillip Grass By Meghan Young | Published 2010-03-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-chair References: [thedesignblog.org](http://www.thedesignblog.org/entry/flying-chair-takes-you-on-a-stylish-and-comfortable-flight/) & [phillipgrass](http://www.phillipgrass.com/) Seems like the [traditional rocking chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-rocking-chair) is getting a facelift (or a leglift if you ask me). For example, check out the Flying Chair. It may look as though it would send you to the moon with its [futuristic design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polarisgo-chair), but I'm pretty sure the name doesn't refer to its ability to launch you into space. Designed by Phillip Grass, the Flying Chair is simply so well-designed and comfortable that it will feel as though you are flying when sitting in it. As an updated version of his [digital prototype](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phillip-grass-designs), hopefully the Flying Chair will see the light of day. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 55% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Redesigned Rocking Chairs:** This trend presents opportunities to innovate and reimagine the traditional rocking chair design, creating new and unique experiences for users. - **Futuristic Furniture Designs:** The Flying Chair exemplifies the potential for futuristic furniture designs that combine style and comfort, offering a distinctive and avant-garde aesthetic. - **Enhanced Comfort and Ergonomics:** The Flying Chair showcases the importance of prioritizing comfort and ergonomics in furniture design, presenting opportunities to create innovative and more comfortable seating options. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** The redesign of rocking chairs and the development of futuristic furniture designs offer disruptive innovation opportunities in the furniture design industry. - **Home Decor:** The trend of redesigned rockers and futuristic furniture designs can disrupt the home decor industry by introducing unique and visually striking pieces for consumers. - **Hospitality and Entertainment:** Incorporating redesigned rocking chairs and futuristic furniture designs can create immersive and captivating experiences in hospitality and entertainment venues, offering a unique atmosphere for visitors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Legless Floor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-bold-chair.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-rocking-chair.md) - [Motion Blur-Inspired Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fast-rocking-chair.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [Fabric-Wrapped Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zhe-rocking-chair.md) - [Naturalistic Grass-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flip-chair.md) - [All-Direction Wobbling Rocking Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbling-rocking-chair.md)
