# Enrapturing Forest Residences Flowing Lake by David Vandervort Frames Modern Perspectives By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-05-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowing-lake-by-david-vandervort References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2011/05/12/flowing-lake-residence-by-david-vandervort-architects/) & [vandervort](http://www.vandervort.com/main.html) The trick to designing dwellings outside of city is to ensure, like Flowing Lake by David Vandervort Architects does, that the building fits in with its natural environment. With so many artificial materials to chose from, this can be an easy task within the urban jungle, but this [luxurious cabin in the forest](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oculus) finds a way to make nice with the landscape around it. This house in Snohomish County, Washington, embodies a scale that more accurately makes it a mansion. The design however, has a modest modern materiality that complements the trees, the trees, the sky and [the water by which it stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lake-house-life-experience-pavilion). [Dark wooden cladding](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-clt-house) decorates the exterior, interrupted only by floor-to-ceiling windows of the gorgeous view. Flowing Lake by David Vandervort Architects truly masters the balance between maximizing size and yet eliminating an imposing appearance. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 88% | Activity: 65% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nature-inspired Architecture:** Designing buildings that seamlessly blend with natural environments creates opportunities for sustainable construction and eco-friendly living. - **Luxury Eco-residences:** Combining opulent amenities with environmentally conscious design can appeal to high-end consumers interested in green living. - **Minimalist Masters of Scale:** Creating spacious dwellings that are visually harmonious with their surroundings offers opportunities for architects to showcase their design prowess. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Designing eco-friendly dwellings that harmonize with their surroundings will help architects differentiate their work. - **Interior Design:** The blend of modern and natural materials in luxury nature-inspired residences creates opportunities for interior designers to showcase their talent. - **Real Estate Development:** Developing eco-friendly luxury residences that prioritize the natural environment can capture the attention of high-end buyers looking to live sustainably. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Thoughtful Lakeside Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakeside-living.md) - [Organic Lake Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/usonianinspired-lake-house.md) - [Nature-Immersed Creative Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/french-creek-workhops-house.md) - [Moody Industrial Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pattern-house.md) - [Modern Floating Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pura-vida-floating-home.md) - [Reimagined Postmodern Residence](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alder-house.md) - [Artistic Lakeside Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ely-retreat.md) - [Nature-Connecting Vacation Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-by-the-lake.md) - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md)
