# Legitimately Legless Tables The Floating Table Remains Level and Raised Without Supportive Posts By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-05-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-table1 References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2013/05/03/) & [ingo-maurer](http://www.ingo-maurer.com/munich_en.html) Glance at the Floating Table and you'll likely have to do a double take. The [curious kitchen table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-table) does not appear to have nearly enough vertical supports to keep its four chairs and its eating surface secure. In collaboration with Established & Sons of the UK, designer Ingo Maurer has created a lighthearted piece that was inspired by magic. What you'll notice with a closer look is that its the seats that serve as peculiar pillars for the seemingly gravity-defying tabletop. Each one of the chairs has a [single extended armrest](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wire-chair-concept) that passes beneath the round or rectangular surface. With these furnishings spaced evenly around the Floating Table, stability is achieved. To ensure that the tabletop does not fall down when somebody attempts to take a seat, a clever mechanism enables you to safely withdraw your perch and tuck it in again. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Gravity-defying Furniture:** Creating furniture that defies gravity by using innovative design and engineering. - **Magic-inspired Designs:** Incorporating magical elements into products to create a sense of awe and wonder. - **Functional Art Pieces:** Designing furniture that serves a practical purpose while also being visually striking and unique. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Exploring new approaches to furniture design that challenge traditional concepts of stability and support. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating whimsical and unique furniture pieces into interior design schemes to create conversation starters and visual interest. - **Home Decor:** Offering consumers innovative and artistic furniture options that add personality and flair to their homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hovering Illusion Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stilk.md) - [Hardware-Free Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kurt-table.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Unconventional Awkwardly Seated Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uncomfortable-table.md) - [Sculptural Gravity Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-bench.md) - [Wall-Mounted Two-Legged Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/instable-side-table.md) - [Interlocking Puzzle-Like Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/connect-table.md) - [Illusory Cracked Base Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-side-table.md) - [Terrazzo Side Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balance-side-table.md)
