# Web-Entangled Seating Philippe Nigro's Floating Sofa Gives the Illusion of Being Suspended By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-sofa References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2011/04/09/gallery-floating-sofa-by-philippe-nigro.php) & [superstudiogroup](http://www.superstudiogroup.com/) Don't let the [web-like string](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/entwined-objects) fool you, the Floating Sofa doesn't actually come suspended. Yet the [suspended facade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr) is entirely intact thanks to its wiry framing that creates an interesting negative space around the couch itself. Designed by Philippe Nigro of [Superstudio Group](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amore-mio), the Floating Sofa is a rather minimalist design that focuses on original detailing to make it stand out from the crowd. This cushioned couch boasts a steel tube exoskeleton frame that yields great support as well as an overall intriguing aesthetic. Perfect for almost any home, the Floating Sofa is more than just a piece of furniture. Full of subtle character, it will act as a fantastic centerpiece for living rooms, making a great first impression of your home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create sleek and functional furniture designs with minimalist aesthetics. - **Original Detailing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate unique and eye-catching details into furniture designs to stand out in the market. - **Negative Space:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of negative space in furniture design to create intriguing and visually appealing products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Utilize innovative materials and construction techniques to create modern and stylish furniture pieces. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate furniture designs into interior spaces to create unique and captivating living environments. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop furniture designs that serve as focal points in home decor, adding subtle character and enhancing the overall ambiance. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illusory Floating Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-soft-sofa.md) - [Floating Component Dining Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-top-chair.md) - [Enveloping Sofa Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perron-pillo.md) - [Flexible Landscape-Like Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airberg-sofa-collection.md) - [Snowfall-Inspired Sofa Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snowhouse-sofa.md) - [Illusory Disconnected Component Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fly-armchair.md) - [Mountainous Magnetic Wall-Mounted Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mousarris-summit-modular-sofa.md) - [Plush Sculptural Lounge Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko.md) - [Transparent Hard-Sided Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spark-sofa.md)
