It was created by Tigere Chiriga, who took inspiration from a banana holder. Chiriga is a big tea drinker, and that led him to come up with this clever design. It's an [elevated mug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mario-mug) that connects to a base, which acts as a coaster. This is ideal for [coffee and tea drinkers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soundsip) who tend to spill while sipping on beverages. The [porcelain-made mug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corcelain) is separated from the table surface, and keeps materials like wood safe from high temperatures and stains. It can hold up a whole gallon of water and is pretty sturdy, until it falls and breaks like any other glass mug would. The Floating Mug by Tigere Chiriga is a simple, functional and funky way to drink your cup of tea. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 80% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Drinking](https://www.trendhunter.com/drinking) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Elevated Drinkware:** Designing drinkware that is elevated from the table surface to prevent table stains. - **Functional Base Design:** Incorporating creative and functional designs for cup bases that can act as coasters to prevent spills. - **Porcelain Material Innovation:** Innovating porcelain material for drinkware to make it sturdy and able to hold a larger amount of liquid. ### Where This Applies - **Home Goods:** Creating functional and aesthetically pleasing drinkware for home use. - **Hospitality:** Providing innovative and stain-proof drinkware for hotels and restaurants. - **Tableware Manufacturing:** Innovating material and design for drinkware that can help prevent spills and damage to tables. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Effortless Tea Brewing Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cuptone-teacup.md) - [Handle-Free Coffee Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinch-hold.md) - [Zero-Gravity Space Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zero-gravity-coffee-cup.md) - [Smart Temperature Control Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-temperature-control-technology.md) - [Magnetic Battery Heated Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-coffee-mug.md) - [Tracker-Friendly Coffee Cup Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/traveler-coffee-cup-holder.md) - [Smart Tabletop Coasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-tabletop-coaster.md) - [Coffee-Cooling Travel Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beverage-tumbler.md) - [Candle Coffee Warmers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/warmer-concept.md)
