# Sea Shell Hotels The Ark Hotel is a Floating Hotel Concept that Resembles a Shell By Megan Facciuolo | Published 2014-04-23 | World Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-hotel References: [designtaxi](http://designtaxi.com/news/365107/A-Futuristic-Concept-For-A-Hotel-That-Floats-Away-When-Sea-Levels-Rise/) & [remistudio.ru](http://remistudio.ru/) A cruise ship is essentially a [floating hotel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-neighborhood) but this futuristic concept by Remi Studio is better than a hotel and boat combined. ‘The Arc Hotel’ serves as a seaside accommodator that floats away when the water level rises. It is aptly designed after a [sea shell](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shell-intelligent) but of course, it’s enclosed and completely waterproof. The structure is perfect for times of natural disaster. Though it is not intended to self-navigate through the water, it can safely drift or be towed by other boats. It can also accommodate weighted impact in order to withstand earthquakes and hurricanes. Many of [beachside hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suuel-hotel) have been destroyed by natural disasters in the past; if this hotel concept was a reality, they could have survived. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.4/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Hip Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/hiphotels) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Floating Hotels:** The growing trend of floating hotels can be explored by businesses in the hospitality and marine industries. - **Resilient Structures:** The need for resilient structures that can withstand natural disasters presents disruptive innovation opportunities for businesses in the architecture and engineering industries. - **Waterproof Design:** The trend of waterproof and flood-resistant design can be applied in various industries such as construction and transportation. ### Where This Applies - **Hospitality:** The hospitality industry can explore opportunities for creating floating hotels and resorts. - **Marine:** The marine industry can explore opportunities for creating modular and resilient structures for offshore and coastal development. - **Construction:** The construction industry can explore opportunities for creating flood-resistant structures and housing. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Shapeshifting Outer Space Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acromnia-orbital-hotel.md) - [Floating Eco-Tourist Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/turtle-bay.md) - [Organically Contoured Superyachts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arc.md) - [Sky-Based Hotel Aircrafts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nuclearpowered-sky-hotel.md) - [Captivating Stilt-House Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mast-1.md) - [Sci-Fi Coastal Hotel Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epicon.md) - [Moving Floating Entertainment Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oceaya.md) - [Retro Surf-Nostalgic Boutique Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sea-sea.md) - [Nautical Themed Hotel Suites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sea-containers.md)
