# Contemporary Colorful Pedestals The Float Table by PINCH is Inspired by Fisherman Floats By Meghan Young | Published 2014-06-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/float-table-by-pinch References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/06/04/float-table-by-pinch/) & [pinchdesign](http://pinchdesign.com/products/float-table) The Float Table by [PINCH](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinch), a design studio based in London, United Kingdom, is a contemporary piece of furniture that could be likened to a pedestal. With its single solid base and [curvaceous](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables), it is hard not to make the comparison. Yet unlike a true pedestal, this table is much more casual and much less conservative. Made out of oak wood, the Float Table by PINCH is actually inspired by traditional fishermen’s floats. But what makes it particularly fetching is the fact that the design is simple enough a person doesn't have to have a love of all things nautical to appreciate it. The base is available in a variety of different colorways including black and white, peach and orange as well as black and peach. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 16% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Contemporary Colorful Pedestals:** Designing furniture with vibrant, modern colors and a pedestal-like structure. - **Fisherman-inspired Design:** Creating products inspired by traditional fishermen's floats, incorporating their simple yet nostalgic aesthetic. - **Casual and Non-conservative Design:** Designing furniture with a relaxed and informal aesthetic, moving away from traditional conservative styles. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for furniture designers to explore colorful and contemporary designs that incorporate pedestal-like structures. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor brands to offer products that incorporate fisherman-inspired design, appealing to consumers seeking a nostalgic and simple aesthetic. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to embrace casual and non-conservative design styles, bringing a relaxed and informal vibe to spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hovering Illusion Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stilk.md) - [Floating Component Dining Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/floating-top-chair.md) - [Dynamic Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ryb-coffee-table.md) - [Contemporary Elegant Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-table-designs.md) - [Curvaceous Abstract Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pet-table.md) - [Shimmering Oceanic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-table.md) - [Colorful Contemporary Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda-tables.md) - [Industrial Floating Bedside Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tu-bedside-table.md) - [Haute Waterlily-Like Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lilypad-table.md)
