# Minimalist Multifunctional Tables Flip Around by Norm Architects is a Stool, Side Table and Tray By Meghan Young | Published 2013-08-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-around-by-norm-architects References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/flip-around-by-norm-architects/) & [normcph](http://www.normcph.com/) Like the common optical illusion that can be interpreted one of two ways, Flip Around by Norm Architects, a design firm based in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a piece of furniture that can be perceived differently. Is it a stool? Or a [side table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/turno)? Well, the simple answer is that it's both. As its name suggests, the surface of the furniture piece flips around so that it is better conducive to one of these functions. In spite of its multifunctional appeal, Flip Around by Norm Architects is very sleek and minimal. Perfect for both traditional and modern homes, the top of the 'table/stool' can also be used separately as a tray. Soon to be available in North America through [Creative Danes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-living), it is available in two colorways: black and wood or white and wood. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Multifunctional Furniture:** Designing furniture that can serve multiple purposes can lead to less clutter and increased efficiency in small spaces. - **Minimalistic Design:** By creating sleek and minimalistic designs, furniture can cater to both traditional and modern homes. - **Modular Designs:** Modular furniture designs allow for customization and adaptation to different spaces and needs. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Manufacturers can invest in creating multifunctional, minimalistic, and modular furniture designs to appeal to a wider range of consumers and satisfy their evolving needs. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate multifunctional furniture designs into their projects to maximize space, improve functionality, and create a seamless design aesthetic. - **E-commerce:** E-commerce platforms can offer a wider range of multifunctional, minimalistic, and modular furniture designs to consumers as they become more popular and meet the evolving needs of their customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reversable Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reverse.md) - [Colorful Dual-Purpose Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/s1-stool.md) - [Transforming Stool-Integrated Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quartet-side-table.md) - [Dual-Position Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/furniture-design-concept.md) - [Multifunctional Modern Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/florian.md) - [Industrial Shapeshifting Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jointable.md) - [Modular Rotating Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/finding-turn-point.md) - [Portable Tray Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taso-tray-table.md) - [Bookshelf-Incorporated Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/overlap-table.md)
