As a part of the Flinders Street Station design competition, [Herzog & de Meuron](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/titlis-tower) in partnership with [HASSELL](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hope-village) conceptualized an incredible [vaulted network roof](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/babel-housing-mexico). The series of arcs are open, allowing room for the tracks underneath. Flinders Street Station is a main transportation hub in the city of Melbourne, Australia.

Their design also features a large amphitheater and open plaza for the public to congregate in. Upstairs there is also room for galleries, markets and other retail opportunities. The concourse is lit by the lattice-like structure of the vaults. The vault network would not compromise the original structure of the current building, which is considered a heritage site. The western entrance would be become the new main entrance where commuters can come into the redesigned station.
