# Destroyed Device Photography Jeffrey Milstein's Flight Recorder Series Creates Calm Thoughts By Carly Foy | Published 2011-04-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flight-recorder References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/39412/) & [wejetset](http://www.wejetset.com/magazine/2011/4/6/1121/flight_recorder) Photographer Jeffrey Milstein has created a [thought-provoking photo series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/small-muji) simply entitled Flight Recorder. The photos feature a flight-recorder piece that is battered and visibly been through a lot. The brightness of the red is dulled by the scrapes from a crash. The box is seemingly demolished on the outside; however, the inside seems to be perfectly held together. The documentation of this device can be considered to be representative of tragedy, as the box itself is from a disaster. The purpose of a flight recorder is to provide information which can be used further to [prevent airplane tragedies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/future-perfect). Milstein's photo series creates a calm fear within the viewer, as the piece itself is seemingly tragic. The Flight Recorder Series is thought-provoking and a must-see. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Flight Recorder Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of flight recorders as art objects to provoke thought and emotions. - **Photography Documentation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new ways to document objects or events through photography that evoke strong emotional responses. - **Repurposing Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Find new applications for damaged or obsolete technology, such as repurposing flight recorders for artistic or functional purposes. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine art and technology to create unique and thought-provoking pieces like Jeffrey Milstein's Flight Recorder Series. - **Aviation and Aerospace:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore novel uses and applications for flight recorders beyond their original purpose of crash investigation. - **Documentary and Journalism:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experiment with alternative ways to document tragedies and evoke emotional responses through visual storytelling. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Explosion-Damaged Sculpture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-into-darkness.md) - [Photography Project Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Travel-Themed Fractured Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baggage-claim-mirrors.md) - [Dramatic Doomsday Bunker Images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper.md) - [AI-Generated Retrofuturistic Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retrofuturistic-objects.md) - [Upcycled Object Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nendo-and-daniel-arsham.md) - [Broken-Aesthetic Sculpture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brokenaesthetic-sculpture-collection.md) - [Disaster-Striken New Furniture Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/future-perfect.md)
