# Cord-Supported Storage Systems The Flex Closet Has Stretchy Strings Instead of Stiff Shelving By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-05-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flex-closet References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/53829/) & [yondermagnetik](http://www.yondermagnetik.com/FLEX) Most bookcases are actually greatly restrictive, offering you only [rectangular cubbies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelving-unit-01) for the storage of your assorted possessions. They often provide adaptability only in the form of adjustable notches for spacing out rigid panels. The Flex Closet is different. Five MDF boards can be easily assembled to create a [tall freestanding frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tumba) for the bookshelf. You might be surprised not to find any ledges to arrange inside, but rather clusters of perforations in the long sides that invite you to string [elastic cords](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/entwined-objects) across the Yonder Magnetik piece. Sets of two and four holes encourage the ropes' reinforcement so that the Flex Closet can hold all types of garments on all sorts of unexpected angles. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Flexible Storage Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop storage systems that offer adaptable and customizable storage options through the use of elastic cords instead of rigid shelves. - **Perforated Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of perforations in product designs to create versatile and flexible storage solutions. - **Reinforced Cord Structures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new methods for reinforcing elastic cord structures to enhance their ability to support various types of items. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Innovate in furniture manufacturing by incorporating elastic cords into storage systems to provide more dynamic and adaptable options for customers. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Redefine interior design by introducing flexible storage solutions that allow for unconventional angles and arrangements of items. - **Home Organization Products:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create innovative home organization products by leveraging perforated designs and elastic cords for customizable storage solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Colorful Modular Storage Sysem](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/center-center-storage.md) - [Living Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive.md) - [Customizable Storage Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelved-modular-furniture.md) - [Adaptable Flat-Pack Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-pack-shelving.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [Sleek Wall Organizer Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mdf-boards.md) - [Modern Convertible Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blendend.md) - [Expandable Bookcase Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burrow-index-bookcase.md) - [Modular Office Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/form-us-with-love-1.md)
