# Floppy Bathroom Fixtures The Fl'eau Bathtub Appears to Overflow Even When it's Empty By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-08-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fleau-bathtub References: [design-moderne](http://www.design-moderne.com/fleau-bath-by-joel-roberts/) & [bathroominnovation.au](http://www.bathroominnovation.com.au/) There is such a great opportunity to explore the [sculptural possibilities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faro-mixer) when designing a soaker. The Fl'eau Bathtub is an exquisite example of such an artistic study that makes its form follow the [flow of the water](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volta-collection) within. This concept jacuzzi was designed by Joel Roberts for the Reece Bathroom Innovation Awards of 2012 and demonstrates a wonderfully fluent use of Corian material. It's as if the tub began as a flat but flexible sheet, gradually changing shape due to the undulations of a wave beneath it. The beautiful [freestanding basin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piano-washbasin) looks impossibly light for its function of containing significant quantities of water. The round-bellied Fl'eau Bathtub balances on either side by the support of gracefully drooping wings. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sculptural Bathroom Fixtures:** Innovative bathroom fixtures that prioritize artistic design and sculptural form in addition to functionality. - **Fluid-inspired Design:** Designs that mimic the flowing and undulating movements of water, creating a visually striking and dynamic aesthetic. - **Lightweight Water Containment:** Innovations in materials and construction techniques that enable the creation of bathroom fixtures that appear light and delicate, yet can contain significant quantities of water. ### Who This Affects Most - **Bathroom Fixture Manufacturing:** Opportunities for manufacturers to create innovative, sculptural bathroom fixtures that go beyond traditional designs and offer unique visual appeal to consumers. - **Interior Design and Architecture:** An opportunity for interior designers and architects to incorporate fluid-inspired design elements in bathroom spaces, creating visually stunning and immersive environments. - **Materials and Manufacturing:** Opportunities for materials scientists and manufacturers to develop lightweight and durable materials suitable for creating bathroom fixtures that appear delicate yet can withstand the demands of daily usage. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Removable Bathtub Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bathtrope.md) - [Rounded Hydromassage Tubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aretusa-tub-by-claudio-papa.md) - [Malleable Removable Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bathtope.md) - [Luxe Translucent Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lusso-amore-freestanding-resin-bath.md) - [Hardwood Based Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beam-bathtub.md) - [AI-Enhanced Contemporary Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloud-and-co.md) - [Water-Celebrating Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aqua-gallery.md) - [Museum-Like Bathroom Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/face-face-bathroom-collection.md) - [Japanese Snack Box-Inspired Bathtubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bento-starck-box.md)
