# Colorful Herringbone Furniture The Contemporary Fishbone Table Collection Uses Natural Materials By Meghan Young | Published 2013-04-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fishbone-table-collection References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/morosopatricia-urquiola/) & [patriciaurquiola](http://www.patriciaurquiola.com/) The Fishbone Table Collection modernizes the traditional herringbone pattern by way of color and overall execution. In place of the typical thin angular strips are larger ones that appear more abstractly applied than purposefully placed, especially since the lines don't line up as they normally would. Designed by Patricia [Urquiola](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/riva-collection) in collaboration with [Moroso](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pebble-rubble), the Fishbone Table Collection was created to accompany her M.a.s.s.a.s seating collection. By using a malleable palette of a cast acrylic composition, Urquiola was able to incorporate natural materials such as horn, mother-of-pearl, marble and tortoise shell to really enhance each design. Each one is finished with a gloss coat. The Fishbone Table Collection offers three designs and four table sizes and shapes. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 42% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Contemporary Herringbone Designs:** Opportunity to create modernized herringbone patterns using new materials and color palettes. - **Natural Material Fusion:** Innovative ways to blend natural materials with modern designs to create unique pieces of furniture. - **Mixed-media Furniture:** Utilizing a variety of materials to create visually exciting furniture designs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for furniture designers to create modern, nature-inspired designs using a variety of materials. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can use modernized herringbone patterns to add unique texture and visual interest to a space. - **Home Decor:** Home decor brands can incorporate mixed-media furniture pieces into their collections to offer customers unique and eye-catching pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Acrylic Multicolor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucid-side-tables.md) - [Colorful Contemporary Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda-tables.md) - [Minimalist Monolithic Table Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taula-table-collection.md) - [Chic Sustainable Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oceanides-table-collection.md) - [Modern Customizable Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-table-design.md) - [Geologically Fluid Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-geology-table-collection.md) - [Oblong Color-Blocked Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meritalia-morphologica-collection.md) - [Elegant Tonal Table Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silos-collection.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md)
