# Sling Back Rocking Chairs The First Rocking Chair by Muller Van Severen is Colorful and Minimalist By Meghan Young | Published 2014-06-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-rocking-chair References: [trendir](http://www.trendir.com/archives/007939.html) & [mullervanseveren.be](http://mullervanseveren.be/site/first-rocking-chair/) Wide and airy, the First Rocking Chair is a minimalist take on the traditional seat. Adopting a [sling back design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster-seat) that is more common with stationary furniture pieces, it channels the look and feel of a hammock that is independent of poles. Reclining back in the First Rocking Chair is a luxury many will want to experience, especially for this hot summer season. The First Rocking Chair was designed by Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen of [Muller Van Severen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bridges-collection). Trendir aptly describes the seat, "As comfy as this chair is, its also an amazing combo aesthetic of industrial meets beach cottage and it would look just as awesome in a loft as it would in a beach side cabin." It is available in two colorways. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 46% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sling Back Furniture:** Opportunity for designers to create more minimalist furniture pieces with the sling back design for a modern look and feel. - **Minimalist Rocking Chairs:** Opportunity for manufacturers to create more simplistic and modern rocking chairs to attract modern customers. - **Hammock-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for designers to create more furniture pieces that are inspired by the comfort and design of hammocks for a unique and modern touch. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can benefit from the trend of creating modern minimalist pieces with a unique design. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies to attract modern customers with simple and unique furniture pieces like minimalist rocking chairs. - **Outdoor Furniture:** The outdoor furniture industry can benefit from creating more modern and comfy rocking chairs inspired by hammocks, perfect for a hot summer day. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Rocking Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-rocking-chair.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [Otherworldly Themed Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-rocking.md) - [Wooden Lounge Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nice-chair.md) - [Motion Blur-Inspired Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fast-rocking-chair.md) - [Sleek Structural Rocking Horses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocking-horse-chair.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Pouffe Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/platero.md) - [Rocking Outdoor Chair Attachments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocking-feet.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md)
