The [first responder app](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ems-drone) alerts first responders of emergencies occurring in nearby areas.

When cardiac arrest occurs, a person's chance of survival decreases by 10 percent for every passing minute, resulting in brain damage that can ensue after just four minutes. The app, developed by the [European Heart Rhythm Association](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/automated-realtime-captions) aims to combat lengthy and sometimes life-altering paramedic wait times by enlisting civilians trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and getting them to the scene quicker than emergency services.

People trained in CPR can register in the app -- when a 9/11 call is placed regarding a cardiac arrest, police dispatchers can send an alert through the app, notifying registered civilians of the location of the emergency.

In a trial run in Germany, the app recruited 600 volunteers who arrived quicker than emergency services 36% of the time. This life-saving app aims to connect people in states of distress with people who have the necessary skills to save their lives.
