# Tree-Climbing Tools JAILmake's First Branch Shortens Distance Between Initial Limb and Ground By Meghan Young | Published 2012-06-28 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-branch References: [trendsnow.net](http://www.trendsnow.net/2012/06/first-branch-by-jailmake-design.html) & [jail-make](http://jail-make.co.uk/products/branch/) It doesn't matter if a person is a seasoned [tree climber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive) or completely new to the activity, the initial limb hoisting them up to the rest of the branches can often seem as far away as the top of Mt. Everest; the [First Branch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hot-ones-munchie-meal) helps to solve that little problem. It essentially is a removable footrest that wraps around the trunk of a tree, effectively shortening the distance between the first branch and the ground. Designed by JAILmake, the First Branch's foothold is made out of [English Oak wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/salvage-and-sap) and finished with a ratchet strap cotton. It packs down enough to fit into a small bag, which is convenient when toting it to the park. Made in South London, the First Branch comes in a screen-printed canvas bag. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Sports](https://www.trendhunter.com/sports) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Portable Tree-climbing Gear:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop lightweight and compact tools for tree climbers that can be easily carried and used on-the-go. - **Efficient Tree Climbing Equipment:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create innovative gear that improves the efficiency and safety of tree climbing activities. - **Sustainable Tree-climbing Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design eco-friendly tools and equipment for tree climbers, considering the environmental impact of their activities. ### Where This Applies - **Outdoor Recreation Equipment:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce advanced tools and gear specifically tailored for tree climbers in the outdoor recreation market. - **Adventure Tourism:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborate with adventure tourism operators to develop specialized tree climbing experiences with state-of-the-art equipment. - **Woodworking and Crafts:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore partnerships with woodworking and crafts companies to create custom-made tree-climbing accessories and gear. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Laptop Paper Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/branch.md) - [Nature Care Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/livio.md) - [Folding Maintenance Lift Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jlg-liftpod.md) - [Sustainable Growth Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treesoil.md) - [Ergonomic Suspended Camping Tents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switra-swisstrail.md) - [Living Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treevive.md) - [Rock Climbing-Inspired Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cling-stool.md) - [Outdoor Structure-Supporting Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rough-timba-tripi-for-lavvu.md) - [Innovative Camping Multi-tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/camping-multitools.md)
