# Simplified Winter Instruments The Firn Snow Shovel is Reduced in Parts to Celebrate Simplicity By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-01-29 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firn-snow-shovel References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2014/01/23/firn-snow-shovel-by-patrick-kroetsch-dominik-gmeiner.php) & [firncanada](http://www.firncanada.com/) The designers of the Firn Snow Shovel know that you don't need an overwhelmingly engineered object to enable you to clear off your driveway in the winter. Taking the idea of simplicity and applying it to the sentiments that surround this often tedious task, Patrick Kroetsch and Dominik Gmeiner worked together to reduce the form of this tool to two primary parts. You will see that the Firn Snow Shovel is the union of a [single bent blade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sfso-1) and a [straight wooden handle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/formwork-collection). The painted metal panel has a hole in it for the insertion of the stick and the two components are held together by just a pair of screws. Finally, the [minimalist manual digger](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dpartment) has a band wrapped around the timber tip to afford the user extra grip. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 48% | Activity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Simplified Winter Tools:** Designing simple yet effective winter tools with minimal parts and easy usability - **Minimalist Product Design:** Reducing products to their most essential parts for straightforward and efficient use - **Eco-friendly Snow Removal:** Designing sustainable snow removal tools that minimize environmental impact ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Improvement Retail:** Developing and marketing minimalist snow removal tools for homeowners seeking simplicity and efficiency - **Outdoor Tool Manufacturing:** Innovating product lines to include eco-friendly and sustainable snow removal tools for the environmentally conscious consumer - **Minimalist Furniture Design:** Utilizing minimalist design approaches to develop furniture pieces focusing on simplicity, effectiveness, and eco-friendliness ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Eco-Friendly Ice Shavers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ice-shaver-concept.md) - [Snowfall-Inspired Sofa Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snowhouse-sofa.md) - [Snow Mountain Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snowfall-house.md) - [Hole-Digging Power Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handheld-automatic-shovel.md) - [Frost-Proof Chic Faucet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scandinavian-design-principles1.md) - [Dynamic Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldont-chair.md) - [Minimalist French Press Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-french-press.md) - [Modern Design-Conscious Power Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoto-36v-screwdriver.md) - [Minimalist Titanium Multi-Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wesn.md)
